6/6

Today we began our last week of classes at El Sol. I'm sad that it's our last week of classes because it means it's our last week of being in Lima, but I'm also excited to officially be done with school for the summer!
After our classes we went to UNIFE (the university that we volunteered at last week and are volunteering again at this week). Our first activity there was called "Language Partners" which is where we just sit around in small groups and talk to the students for an hour; half an hour in Spanish, and half an hour in English. Today the topic we were supposed to be talking about was dating, but we ended up just talking about social life and the differences between social life for young adults in Peru verses young adults in the United States.
After that activity we had a history lecture with a professor from the University. The professor for my group had a very strange accent and even simple things were hard to understand. I was able to understand a few things though. She spoke mostly about the time period right after Peru gained independence from Spain.
After that we had another activity that consisted of us giving presentations in Spanish on the book we are reading about Lima for our class, and the students of UNIFE translated our presentations to English. This took a long time because we had to pause after every sentence to let them translate, so not everyone got to present today. I was one of the few who did get to present today and I spoke about the independence of Peru, and the time when Lima went through the most modernization and change.
That was our last activity of the day afterwards we got back on the bus and headed back to Miraflores.
