Today we left the hotel around 8 am and traveled to two places by
bus. The ride was about an hour and half and on the way we stopped twice. Once
at a place to view the mountains, and second at a place to view the Salineras
de Maras from above. The Salineras de Maras is a salt mine created before the
Incan times and it consists of salt beds that dry in the sun and then to this day people harvest the salt and use it to create food for animals and humans, and medicine.
The salt mines were so cool! It looked almost
like snow, but was hard.
After Salineras de Maras we got back in the bus and traveled to
Moray. Moray was a place created by the Incans. No one is sure what exactly it
was used for, but some people believe that it was used for agricultural purposes. The Incans are believed to have created different terraces to grow different plants because Peru has many microclimates. We walked around Moray, which has 3 different sites and took a lot of pictures.
After Moray we headed back to Cuzco and had a lecture with Monica
and our assistant Henry about Peruvian politics and other social issues. When
the lecture ended a bunch of us went to a nearby Starbucks to use the wifi and
do some work.
Around 7 pm we went and got dinner at this restaurant called Per.
UK. The restaurant was a fusion between food from Peru and the U.K. I ordered a veggie sandwich and then split a dessert of vegan mousse with bananas
and strawberries on top. It was amazing!
