After our classes today, our first adventure was to the Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia del Perú. We took a guided tour of the museum and learned about the ancient civilizations, the Spanish conquest, and the ultimate independence of Perú. What I found most interesting was what I learned about the Inca Empire. In the Incan Empire, the taller your head was, the more respected and important you were. So in order to achieve this odd prefrence, the Incans would strap themselves to machines or other things to elongate the shape of their head. The museum also had many fascinating artifacts. For example, it had the sword of Simón Bolívar, an important leader who helped establish independence in many South American countries. Between the museum and the next activity we stopped at a winery and tasted some wine and pisco to pass the time.
Next we traveled to the Circuito Magico del Agua. The Circuito Magico del Agua was my favorite activity of the day. This park had cost 13 million U.S. dollars to make and has 13 different fountains. The set-up of the park is beautiful and has trees with lights, fountains that are interactive, and beautiful flowers. After walking through the entire park, we returned to the beginning where we saw the light show. The light show was beyond incredible. The water from the fountain was used as a projector and with different lights they could display either an image as crisp as a photograph, or an interesting geometric and colorful design.
